ABOUT MYSELF

My name is Laura Hernandez founder and owner of Yoga & Mouvement. I trained at the Studio Ashtanga Yoga in Montreal, 2002 and I am a certified teacher since 2002. I have been leading Yoga classes for over 15 years. Prior to opening my own studio, I had the privilege to have taught at Ashtanga Montreal as well as with Yoga Monde owned by Nicole Bordeleau (a renowned teacher in francophone yoga culture) and at Satya Yoga Sutton.

Over the years I have been invited to teach in various studios and thereby developed both a solid teaching practice and a great network. My interests led me to study aromatherapy, nutrition and aquatic massage.

It is my heart’s desire to provide my students with the encouragement and support to make the journey within. My natural patience, compassion and calm energy provide a nurturing environment for this process.

ABOUT MY TRAJECTORY

Before immigrating to Canada and founding Y&M, I studied interpretation, translation and international business. I worked internationally as a development agent from my homeland in Mexico. This career track was fraught with all manner of challenges and the obligatory stress, competitiveness and pressure to perform more and better. So, when I came upon Yoga in 1995 it didn’t take any time for me to feel the physical benefits of Asana-thus began an enduring, lifelong love story.

In 2000 I had reached the peak of my career but decided to expatriate because Mexico was becoming somewhat of a threatening environment. Finding myself in a host country motivated me to pursue my passion for wellness. I had felt the benefits of body/mind approaches and wanted to continue studying the body, movement and personal development. I’m still at it!

Yoga quickly became the most nourishing sustenance of my wellbeing and because of this my perception towards my practice shifted: I no longer was « doing » Yoga, I was « living » Yoga.

Personal practice and the wisdoms inherent in the way of Yoga allowed me to better face losses and upheavals during difficult times. Yoga wisdom made birthing my son and motherhood in general richer. It also goes without saying that the wisdoms from my own Mayan lineage influence and guide my holistic approach, my teaching and my practice.
